The Votorantim fortune dates back to 1918, when Jose bought a textile factory in Sao Paulo. Clóvis' mother, Maria Helena Moraes Scripilliti, held 25% of the company before giving the stakes to her four children. The Votorantim group operates in more than 20 countries and has interests in aluminum, pulp and paper, energy, cement and banking. He has held positions in the group since 1980 and is a director at Hejoassu Administracao, the family's holding company.
