Before leading Goldman Sachs, he worked under then-CEO Henry Paulson as the company's president and chief operations officer from 2004 to 2006. Blankfein first became a partner at the firm in 1988. Blankfein grew up in the projects in Brooklyn, graduated as a valedictorian from Thomas Jefferson High School before getting history and law degrees from Harvard.
