About Me

Real estate icon Mortimer Zuckerman stepped down as chairman of Boston Properties in 2016 after nearly five decades running the REIT. The son of Ukrainian Jewish immigrants who settled in Montreal and sold tobacco and candy, Zuckerman founded Boston Properties in 1970. Zuckerman became a U.S. citizen in 1977 and took Boston Properties public two decades later. He still owns roughly 5% of the public company, which operates a diverse portfolio of primarily office space totaling over 50 million square feet. He sold The New York Daily News in 2017 after owning it for 24 years. He is still editor-in-chief, co-publisher and owner of U.S. News & World Report.
