About Me

Thomas Bailey's fortune comes from mutual fund giant Janus, which he founded in Denver in 1969. Bailey sold his 12% stake in Janus to its parent, Stillwell Financial, for $1.2 billion (pretax) in 2001-2002. Janus had two decades of remarkable returns, but its funds began losing money in the early 2000s. He served as the CEO of Janus for 33 years until 2002 and as chairman through 2003. A Michigan State graduate who worked on Wall Street before moving to Denver, he spends his time fly-fishing and breeding horses.
