About Me

Raised in rural Idaho, Mueller joined SpaceX in 2002 as employee No. 1, with a master's in mechanical engineering and experience building experimental rockets. He and Elon Musk outlined plans for SpaceX's first rocket, Falcon 1, shortly after Musk sold PayPal to eBay, laying the foundation for the company's launch vehicle program. As head of propulsion engineering, Mueller led the design and development of rocket engines for the Falcon launch vehicles and the Dragon spacecraft. He departed SpaceX in 2020 to found Impulse Space, an aerospace startup focused on in-space transportation and orbital logistics. Impulse has signed contracts with satellite provider SES, SpaceX, and NASA.
