About Me

Turgay Ciner (pronounced "jin-ner"), who worked as an errand boy in tea shops during high school, presides over a fortune built on soda ash. Soda ash is used in glass, detergents and various industrial products. Ciner's Eti Soda and Kazan Soda are among the world's top producers. In 2025, Ciner's London-based WE Soda acquired U.S. producer Genesis Alkali for $1.4 billion, reinforcing its position as the world's largest natural soda ash producer. Ciner sold his media empire -- including Habertürk, Show TV and Bloomberg HT -- at the end of 2024, ending a 22-year run as one of Turkey's most prominent media owners. Ciner's Silopi Electric, in Turkey's Southeastern Anatolia region, generates power from thermal plants fueled by coal extracted from Ciner mines.
