Xie Weitong was the largest shareholder of Huayou Cobalt, a mainland Chinese supplier of cobalt and lithium battery chemicals. He sold all his stakes in 2021. The company also operates cobalt and copper mining businesses in the Congo, and acquired a $422 million lithium mine in Zimbabwe in 2022.
